Knock phenomenon and solution of gasoline engine failure of outboard motor

Mar 04, 2023|

The gasoline engine is an important part of the outboard engine, and it is inevitable to have a fault during its use. Knocking is a relatively common fault. Generally, this fault manifests as:
1. Engine power decreases and fuel consumption increases.
2. The fuel is incompletely burned, and there is black smoke in the exhaust gas.
3. The temperature of the cooling system is too high.
4. Knocking will suddenly generate shock waves in the cylinder, which will impact in all directions, causing strong vibrations in the piston, cylinder wall, connecting rod, crankshaft, etc. of the engine, and irregular metal knocking sounds.
Solution:
1. When the engine load is too large and knocking occurs, closing the throttle valve can also play a role in reducing knocking.
2. Remove carbon deposits in the combustion chamber.
3. Use gasoline of the grade (octane number) that meets the regulations.
4. Decrease the ignition advance angle.
