Advantages and disadvantages of electric outboard motors

Mar 11, 2023|

With the maturity of DC brushless motor technology and the advancement of battery technology, electric outboard motors have also entered the range of people's choices. But what are the advantages and disadvantages of this electric outboard motor? Let the outboard motor manufacturer tell you below.
1) Advantages:
1. High propulsion efficiency: The output characteristics of low speed and high torque are very suitable for ship propulsion.
2. Safety, ordinary users who are not professional technicians still have some risks when operating, but electric outboard motors do not need to worry about such risks at all.
3. Easy to store, transport and use.
4. Low cost of use: the cost of daily charging is far lower than the cost of purchasing fuel; the structure is simple, there are few rotating parts, the work is reliable, and the maintenance cost is low.
5. Green and environmental protection, zero pollution, which is reflected in two levels: one is no pollution to the environment, which has positive significance for the protection of water resources and air; the other is for individual users, storage, transportation and use are very clean, No nasty gasoline smell, oil, and inhalation of exhaust fumes.
2) Disadvantages:
1. The power range is small. At present, the mass-produced electric outboard motor with relatively high horsepower is only 80 horsepower, which cannot be compared with gasoline outboard motors with 300 or 350 horsepower.
2. The initial purchase cost is relatively high. As a product in the outboard motor industry, while providing users with a good experience, the price is also relatively high due to the cost.
3. The battery life is limited. Even the series using lithium batteries can only reach 2-3 hours of battery life at economical speed. Although personal leisure and entertainment are not a problem, commercial operations need to increase the battery pack to meet the battery life requirements. .
